Through the French and Industrial Revolutions, Napoleonic Wars (which gave rise to the Napoleonic Codes), Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin Clicquot not only survived (by wits as well as sheer luck); she stubbornly perservered to revolutionize herself as well as the industry of Champagne she came to know and love. Tilar Mazzeo’s The Widow Clicquot tells her story. And an impressive story it is.

One could say that calculation and risk were in Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin’s blood. She grew up the child of a wealthy family in the Champagne region of France. She was only 11 years old when the French Revolution broke out in 1789. During the Jacobin years, her father made the calculated move to become a Jacobin himself, masking his natural affinity for the nobility (and, in doing so, his own aspirations to become a nobleman as well). And during these years when Catholicism was illegal, the Ponsardins married their daughter Barbe-Nicole – quietly – in a church ceremony with only family attending.

The family Barbe-Nicole was married into changed her fate: she came to share a passion for wine with husband Francois Clicquot. Theirs was an intense wine education, forged in the fields of Champagne. Unfortunately, Francois died tragically young. Barbe-Nicole was only 27 years old, and, now, a single mother.

Like her father before her, the young widow – with amazing foresight – decided to take advantage of her widow status (the Napoleonic Codes dictated that a woman’s work was that of wife, mother, caregiver). Possibly inspired by widowed winemakers before her, Veuve Clicquot (Veuve is “widow” in French) approached her father-in-law and asked permission to run the winery. He allowed her to under one stipulation: that she work under the tutelage of an experienced winemaker. Thus began the undertakings – risk, loss, luck, and all – that would eventually make her name a world brand and her wines an iconic figure of luxury and celebration.

Tilar Mazzeo from the outset admits that there were few materials to work with when she undertook the endeavor of writing Clicquot’s amazing history. This is because the Widow’s story is mostly one that “lives in the shadowy half-life of oral folk legend”. Nonetheless, Mazzeo is an impressive biographer and writer. She doesn’t take for granted the recorded workings of other successful entrepreneurs and industrialists of the day, and her imaginings are more steeped in what must have-been, rather than postulations of what probably-was.

For anyone who loves good wines, Champagne in particular, I can think of no better book to tuck into. With, of course, a lovely bottle of bubbles as well. The Widow herself was full of verve and cunning; and her story – as well as that of Champagne – is an interesting one to tuck into and savor.

As people in general become more stressed in a society that focuses so much on being financially successful, the option of opting out of it all becomes highly desirable. Just using the imagination of putting oneself on to an island with sunshine, sea breezes, tropical palms swinging in the gentle zephyrs aloft – all conjours up a scene so inviting and desirable that people are prepared to knuckle down to the demands of the system we live in and work hard to achieve things that otherwise would not be possible. So when one is getting married, a tropical honeymoon destination in the South Pacific is grabbed with both hands.

There are not many people who would not agree that this would represent a dream honeymoon, but due to the constraints of finance, it is not always possible to live the dream or to make it a reality. However there are many locations where it does not cost a fortune to have an amazing holiday – little chalets inland which are surrounded by lush tropical planting may not be the absolute beachfront location, but are often very close to the beach, and still provide a getaway which is what a honeymoon is all about. These often have very interesting aspects which make holidays in them very appealing as a tropical honeymoon destination in the South Pacific.

While there are many islands in the Pacific, most people tend to stick to the more well known ones such as Fiji, The Cook Islands, Samoa, Tonga – especially the outer islands in the northern group of Vava’u which have amazing beauty and are very unpopulated and unspoiled with clear waters of deep turquoise and where a vacation on either on a skippered or bareboat yacht is offered, not a sound to be heard when cruising under a sail into a sheltered anchorage. Truly a tropical honeymoon destination in the South Pacific that becomes amazingly appealing to those who are boat lovers and enjoy cruising.

Of course the islands do also provide a standard which is now becoming increasingly popular in latter years and that is 5 star accommodation. This is a market that is steadily growing and which people are more than happy to save up for so they can enjoy a special location for a special occasion. There are 5 star resorts in all of the main centres in the Pacific region. Increasingly popular are the self contained small boutique villa properties where a hotel standard of service is offered, but guests have the option of using not only the lagoon as their swimming spot, but also a private swimming pool in their own villa courtyard. This provides a real getaway situation for couples wanting to escape the masses when on holiday. What could provide a better option for a tropical honeymoon destination in the South Pacific paradises?

Perhaps it’s because there’s a close cultural connection between great music and smoky bars. Anyone who knows anything about jazz knows that its truly legendary improvisers – Coltrane, Bird, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie – cut their teeth playing in bars so smoky that it’s a good thing everybody was too busy improvising to need sheet music.

Or maybe it’s because both cigars and music are contemplative pleasures. A casual smoker can get a quick tobacco-fix from a cheap cigarette, just as a casual music listener can enjoy the background hum of pop songs on the car radio. But to really enjoy a great performance, or a good tobacco, sitting still and paying attention are necessary.

In any case, music and cigar smoking seem to belong together, and some of the most famous musicians are (or were) cigar devotees – just as, it turns out, one of the most famous of cigar devotees is also a musician. Avo Uvezian, the maker of Avo cigars, is also a respected classical and jazz pianist, a Julliard graduate, and even the one-time official pianist of the Shah of Iran. After a successful musical career based first in his native Middle East, and then in the contiguous United States, Uvezian moved in the 1980s to Puerto Rico, where he opened a restaurant and bar and dabbled in cigarmaking. After customers at his Puerto Rico restaurant told him how much they enjoyed some cigars he’d had rolled himself, from a blend of tobaccos he hand-picked, he opened his own Dominican Republic-based cigar factory, working with noted cigar maker Hendrik Kelner. Now his company makes three million cigars a year, and Uvezian himself still makes music – his first CD, Legacy, was released in 2004.

For another example, consider the great trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, who smokes, by his own estimation, four or five cigars a day. Music allowed the Cuban-born Sandoval to rise to fame in his native Cuba – and to defect from that country in 1990, during a long stint playing concerts in Europe (he now lives in Florida). Sandoval has played the horn for Lionel Hampton and Dizzy Gillespie, Gloria Estefan and Johnny Mathis, Michel Legrand and Frank Sinatra. His technically flawless playing has resulted in his being the kind of musician whose work is often known by people who couldn’t name him – he is brought in as a session musician by some of the world’s finest and best-known (see above), and he often scores movie soundtracks. As his work with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Leningrad Philharmonic prove, he’s even proved able to handle the rigors of classical music as well as jazz – sometimes doing both in the same concert.

The cigar-music connection is especially strong in Cuba, known as one of the world’s cigar capitals. Both cigars and music are staples of island life (the cigar remains one of the island’s most prominent exports), and the strength of both in Cuban culture depends partly on the nimble and intelligent blending of elements from everywhere – wrappers and fillers from different parts of Latin America, rhythms and melodies from the African coast, South America, US pop, Western European classical, etc. In other words, Cuban cigarmaking and Cuban music have both survived, and flourished, by mixing and melding.

For generations, cigar rollers were entertained by the sound of paid musicians or by music from the radio. (This tradition continues even now in the Dominican Republic, where workers at the Arturo Fuente factory, among other places, are treated to the work of performing musicians.) With this tradition in place, it’s no wonder that some of Cuba’s music legends got their start as cigar-factory entertainers; and since tobacco smoking has been a part of Latin American life far longer than it has in some other places – Columbus’s sailors noted it being smoked in what is now modern Cuba in the year 1493, so there’s many more centuries of lore to draw on its psychological and emotional associations are deeper and richer, providing better material for songwriters to mine. Thus famous Cuban songwriter Beny More, himself a former entertainer for the cigar-factory workers, touches on the song in a number of his classic compositions.

CigarFox provides you the opportunity to build your own sampler of the finest cigars that include cigar brands like Montecristo, Romeo & Julieta, H Upmann, Macanudo, Cohiba, Partagas, Gurkha and many more. I stopped smoking over 15 years ago because the Government had jacked up the taxes yet again. I wasn’t going to pay (I think it was $2.00 a pack)! That was it. I had to stop smoking.
Luck would have it that I wasn’t sitting with my father on the porch discussing fishing, when I noticed that he wasn’t smoking. Here was a man whose cigarettes were so strong and raunchy, that I even refused to borrow them from him. He had been smoking these air pollutants for over 40 years. I asked him why he wasn’t smoking. He informed me that the company he worked for had a program to help smokers quit smoking. He had taken it and he had smoked for over a month.
I asked my father for a summary of how he quit. It was really quite simple. They were handed out a book “How to Quit Smoking” (the author escapes me), he gave me the book. Whenever I had a cigarette, I would read the book. The book revealed how much smoking controlled my life. I would go out in the middle of the night to get cigarettes, or even something simple like matches. Or I would wait until I had finished having a cigarrette before I entered a building. The worst was when I moved to the North-east and I had to smoke outside in an artic squall. It was so cold. It became unbearable.
When the break bell ran at work I would jog to the nearest exit to have a cigarette, and if I was lucky enough I could quickly inhale 2 cigarettes. During lunch break I would wolf down my lunch and jog outside into an artic squall, have two cigarettes. It was quite pathetic when I look back on it.
I had tried everything to quit smoking, I was even dumb enough to take the advice of a dear friend. He suggested that I should smoke a pipe or cigar. The logic was that I would smoke a cigar or pipe instead of a cigarette. This would replace the cigarette which was worse because you inhaled the cigarette, but not the pipe or cigar. What a great idea.
Shortly, after I started this stop smoking program, I was smoking a cigarette, a cigar, and a pipe. I was smoking so much, I didn’t even have time to breathe oxygen. I smelt like an incinerator. People would turn the fire extinguishers on me.
I chose a long weekend to quit smoking. I purchased 5 lbs of peanuts, this would help when I felt the urge to inhale. I made it through the weekend. I would still have an urge to smoke, but I would resist. Now 15 years later, I am one of those self-righteous non-smokers. Unfortunately, I think if I can quit a pack and half day, plus the cigars, and pipe smoking, everybody can.
It is tough at the beginning, but if you can quit, the urges will pass. There are now so many inexpensive aids to help you, like the patches, the pills, hypnosis, etc. it can be done.

It might be said that the electronic cigarette is the best product that has ever came along for those who smoke. It has many undeniable advantages over traditional tobacco cigarettes and lot smokers are just now finding that out. Smoking cigarettes is one of the most difficult habits to give up and so many who smoke have tried time and time again unsuccessfully to stop. The electronic cigarettes is not being marketed as a tool to help you stop smoking, but rather as an alternative to traditional tobacco cigarettes; even though the electronic cigarette does deliver doses of nicotine like many stop smoking aids do. The decision and will power to quit smoking is as always in the hands of the smoker.

If you are tired of paying the outrageous prices for a pack of cigarettes today, the electronic versions are more affordable. They deliver the same smoking satisfaction without the tar associated with tobacco products that are burned. Electronic cigarettes have no carcinogens at all because nothing is burned. The nicotine solution is only heated by the atomizer that is activated by a rechargeable battery stick when you inhale. The smoke that is exhaled is really just water vapor. It is less harmful to others if it is harmful at all, than second hand smoke from regular cigarettes.

There have been numerous studies done on the Electronic Cigarette and so far most of the findings have been that they appear be less harmful because of one fact alone, and that is the lack of the thousands of harmful chemicals that are in tobacco cigarettes. This fact however, is still being debated and not all researchers agree that electronic cigarettes are any better for you physically than tobacco cigarettes. That aside, there are advantages over tobacco cigarettes that are plainly obvious.

There is no bad odor from electronic cigarettes, as well as no tar residue in your body or your surroundings. They can be much more convenient to use for a smoker because there is no lighting involved. An artificial glowing red tip is as close to a fire as you get with an electronic cigarette. They will not burn anything. You can lay them down wherever you like with no worry of starting a fire. It is the numbers of filters that have to be disposed of is significantly reduced because one nicotine filter is equivalent to a half a pack of cigarettes or more. There are even less filters to be disposed of when you choose to buy the nicotine solution to refill your filters, which is even more economical.

Whether or not you believe that electronic cigarettes are a better smoking choice for you, must be decided by you. Many smokers have already switched over to this new revolution because it is less offensive to others and more convenient and cheaper for them.

The electronic cigarette is the best product that has ever come along for those who smoke. Life insurance, specifically Term Life, is arguably one of the best values in the entire financial services arena. Where else can you go and get hundreds of thousands of pounds in protection for literally pennies per day? Rates for Term Life insurance remain at all-time lows, and now is the time to lock in the best prices. Here are some ways to help you save money when purchasing life insurance.

Buy when you’re young. Although your financial needs may be lower at a younger age, the rates are also substantially cheaper when you’re young. Remember, the goal is to cover your primary assets (like your salary and house) so that if something were to happen to you, your beneficiaries would be able to persevere financially. The best advice is to lock in as much protection at a young age while your health and prices are still good.

Your “half” birthday could be costly. While some companies raise their prices based on your actual age, most companies increase the price of their policies six months before your birthday. It’s a term called “Age Nearest” in the industry, and that half-year price increase could really add up over a 20-year term policy.

Buy before any major health issues arise. Healthy people have the best mortality risks and thus are much cheaper for companies to insure. This translates into lower rates for the “Super Preferred” customer than someone with higher risk factors such as a heart condition, cancer or diabetes. Conversely, if you were unhealthy when you acquired your policy, and your health has now improved, it might be time to shop for a new policy, as your rates are likely to be lower.

Select the right length of coverage. Everyone has different needs, and not one size fits all when it comes to term life insurance. While it may make sense for people in their 30s and 40s to secure a 20-year term length, a 10-year term might be more appropriate for someone nearing retirement.

People who are trying to quit smoking, for example, might be best suited purchasing a shorter term (and then replacing it with a longer term policy when they qualify for non-tobacco prices). Lastly, individuals who have 30-year mortgages might want to consider a 30-year term to ensure that the house is protected throughout the period of the loan.

Check for price breaks. Companies often offer “price breaks” at certain coverage amounts (i.e. £250,000 vs. £225,000). The truth is that many people can actually pay less money for more coverage. Check how much or little your prices increase when you increase coverage to £250,000, £500,000, or £1,000,000.

Buy the right amount of coverage. Many agents may try to sell you more coverage than you need. The purpose of life insurance is to “indemnify” (replace financial loss), and what most people should be looking for is income replacement for their beneficiaries. Independent financial planners recommend the following rule of thumb: purchase an amount of coverage equal to 6-10 times your annual gross income.

The right hobby with the wrong company could cost you. People who participate in high-risk sports or activities (such as hang-gliding, skydiving, mountain climbing, scuba diving, and racing), or even those who like to have an occasional cigar could very well pay more money if they don’t pick the right company.

Every company looks at risk factors differently and some are more liberal in certain areas than others. Make sure you work with an insurance company that has properly matched your personal profile with their underwriting criteria.

Work policies aren’t always the best deal. . Work policies are often based on a composite profile of the employees you work with, many of whom may be less healthy than you, or have other underwriting factors that might drive up rates.

These type of policies also expire if/when you leave the company. Inexpensive term life insurance polices that cover your dependents until they can live comfortably on their own are often a better alternative.

Check out your payment options. Many life insurance companies offer discounts to consumers who pay their premiums annually.

Review your policy often. Do a review of your life insurance policy a minimum of every three years, if not more often. Rates may be lower, and your circumstances may have changed, necessitating more or less protection. If you are replacing a policy, make sure you allow enough time to get your new policy in place so coverages won’t overlap or lapse.

Don’t overspend on protection. Term life insurance is the most affordable and cost-effective pure protection available, and it is typically much less expensive than a comparable whole life policy. The old axiom still rings true: “Buy Term and invest the difference.”

Electric Cigarette Review

When you are trying to quit smoking you have to be aware of the steps you need to take in order to avoid weight gain. Many people experience weight gain within the first month of quitting. In this article I will reveal several tips which will help you quit this unhealthy habit without gaining any extra pounds.

Don’t try any harsh diets. This is probably the worst time to try any crash diets. All you really have to do is eat a little bit healthier. Choose whole grains, lean protein, low fat dairy and plenty of fresh fruits and veggies. Electric Cigarette Review
Buy healthy treats. Given that you will crave a snack every now and again, make sure that you buy low calorie treats (such as gum or hard candy).
Increase your intake of water. In order to reduce your appetite and help yourself feel full more often, make sure that you drink plenty of water. A tall glass of water before every meal will help you eat less.
Increase your intake of fiber. Fiber, similar to water, helps you feel full. Make sure that you eat plenty of fiber rich foods.
Exercise. Exercise will help you burn excess calories. However, aside from helping you burn excess calories, fitness is also a great distraction from food and cigarette cravings.
Speak with your doctor regarding any cessation aids. If you are having a hard time handling this situation on your own you can always speak with your doctor. Electric Cigarette Review

Any time I talk about writing articles, I hear people say things like “I don’t have the ability to write” or “I’m a really good writer but I have a hard time with procrastination.” Now, I don’t have a problem with the writing. I know I can write pretty well but I do have a problem with getting started and then finishing.

Of course, staring at my computer screen all day isn’t exactly my idea of a good time. Certainly, I’d much rather be carving waves or mountains. What would you rather do: toil away all day on your computer writing article after article or simply rewrite some high quality articles, tie them together, make them look like your own and then do whatever it is you like to do?

If any of the stuff above reminds you of the person that you see every morning in the mirror, then these four ways that you can profit from private label content are for you as are the other four in Part 2.

Here are four ways in which you can use private label content to easily make money:

1. Take the content, plug your affiliate links into the content and compile them into a spectacular little eBook.

I just love to use this little strategy Now, for instance, let’s say that you have a website that sells cigars. You buy private content about cigars that cigar aficionados would like then compile it into a mini eBook. Then load the eBook with links back to your website and encourage your customers to pass it along so that it will spread like a virus.

And you can take it a step further if you have a rebrander program. Don’t know what a rebrander is? With a rebrander, your affiliates can take your eBook and place their affiliate link to your store in it. This really is the essence of viral marketing because now it is easier and more profitable for your affiliates to promote your web site.

2. Make a solid report by culling some of the articles together and then give it away to promote your site. Also, if you use a rebrander, you can rebrand the report and allow your affiliates to promote your website by giving it away for free.

Of course, most salespeople know that it takes an average seven contacts with a customer before they will place an order. A few people will order the first time, but more often than not, you will have to contact them 4+ times before they will order. The small problem is that you need their email address because they’re not going to just hand it over… that’s way you give them the free report.

Well, the better the report the more trust you build with your customer and the more likely they become to open their wallet. I mean, let me ask you this: would a report with 25 articles in it make you happy? Damn straight you would!

3. Simply create a small niche content site and make money by placing Google Adsense on your website’s pages.

I love Google Adsense… it’s the easiest way to make money! Why? Because even a small little website with only five pages can make me $5-10 per day. You can make $36,000-73,000 by simply creating twenty little 5-page websites. A 25-page site can make me $25-50 per day… 365 days per year!

You do the math. A small little website + submitting your articles to article directories = $$$$. Simple. Awesome. Extremely lucrative. And with private label content… very little work!

4. With private label content packages, you get hundreds of articles across various niches every month so you can load up your articles to go out once a week and have a newsletter set for a year in advance.

Are you like me? Do you like to spend time setting something up all at one time so that you don’t have to deal with it for a year or two? Just so I never have to buy any for the rest of the year, I always buy two cases of toilet paper at Costco. Well, with private label content packages, you get hundreds of articles each month so you can do the same basic thing.

I mean, wouldn’t it be great to take the articles and put them together as an newsletter that goes out every single week like clockwork? Wouldn’t that be spectacular? Every day, money will flow into your bank account for work that took you one day months or years ago.

If you want to make money with private label content, then these four ways are an excellent starting point. Of course, these are not the only ways to make money from private label content. In fact, if you haven’t already done so, check out part 2 of this article. Just click on one of the links in the resource/bio box below!
