Let’s take a look at some reasons why you might or might not need a cigar humidor. My contention is that every serious cigar smoker should have a good humidor. I also realize that there are also probably a few reasons why you might not need a humidor. So let’s explore these for a few minutes.
You need a good cigar humidor for the following reasons:
* You purchase expensive cigars and you want to preserve your investment* There are no cigar stores in your immediate area* You want to make sure that you always have your favorite cigars close at hand* You cigars in bulk* You have friends over who enjoy a good cigar
Those are just a few of the reasons why you need a good humidor.
When I lived in New York City, I didn’t have a cigar humidor. I didn’t need one. There were at least four really good cigar stores within a couple of blocks of my apartment. If I wanted a cigar, I just took a leisurely walk to one of the cigar stores to pick up a cigar or two for the evening. A couple of the stores even had sitting areas where you could read while you enjoyed your cigar.
Now I will admit that there were times when I wanted a cigar but could not get to a store or the stores were closed. A well stocked humidor would have been nice on those occasions but it wasn’t something that I really needed.
Here are some additional reasons why you might not need a cigar humidor:
* You are not a serious cigar smoker* Cigar stores are plentiful and are open when you need them* You only a cigar or two at a time and smoke them immediately* You have just taken up cigar smoking
So there you have it, my take on whether or not you need a cigar humidor. If you are a serious cigar smoker, get yourself a good humidor. If you smoke cigars infrequently, then you probably don’t need a humidor.

Denton, Texas (PRWEB) September 30, 2011
The International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association says the proposed expansion of the Denton, Texas smoking ban would be tantamount to turning the city into a nanny state run by Big Brother. Research into the matter is expected to continue by City Council until December when a decision would be made as to whether or not the council will vote on the issue.
The current ban prohibits smoking in city-owned buildings, schools and stores, and requires restaurants to have designated smoking areas. The proposal under consideration would ban smoking in all city workplaces, bars and restaurants.
?Instead of researching expansion of the ban, they should be considering rescinding the ban altogether. We are against any form of legislated smoking ban and favor, instead, the rights of business owners to decide for themselves what the smoking policy would be in their respective establishments,? said Bill Spann, chief executive officer of the IPCPR. The association represents some 2,000 small businesses comprised mostly of family-owned, neighborhood cigar stores, manufacturers and distributors of premium cigars and related accoutrements.
?It is our understanding that one person brought this up, citing economic statistics in two other Texas cities that alleged no negative effects from an expanded ban. Well, there are plenty of statistics that prove otherwise, that smoking bans do, indeed, cost jobs, hurt businesses and lose tax revenues. But that?s not the point. The point is that people are fed up with government telling them what to do and where they can or cannot do it,? Spann said.
Spann pointed out that smoking bans are usually based on a lackadaisical public that doesn?t realize that its rights are taken away from them.
He cited a report by the Heartland Institute that ?? studies have shown that smoking bans hurt small businesses?. In Ohio, for example, the Department of Job and Family Services predicted a 10,000-job gain for the state?s hospitality and leisure industry prior to the ban?s implementation. In reality, the industry lost 5,400 jobs during the first 12 months of the smoking ban,? according to the Institute?s report.*
?Business owners should have the right to declare whether or not smoking should be allowed on their premises, just as employees and customers should have the right to work in or patronize those businesses. But when a governmental body tells proprietors how to run their businesses, they risk losing business and tax revenues to surrounding cities. Smokers and non-smokers alike should be up in arms over the prospects of another Constitutional right being taken away from the citizens of Texas,? Spann said.

The IPCPR show is an annual convention and considered by some to be the most important trade show for cigars of the year. It is a great opportunity to get the best in cigars to consumers and people come from all over the world to show off their cigars and be a part of this yearly event. At the show, new merchandise is displayed, cigars are smoked, and the manufacturers get to connect with the retailers and customers in a way that only happens once a year – face to face!
At the IPCPR show in 2009, the best of the best was revealed and some of the cigars have made a real impact on the industry. There were over 50 new lines of cigars released, but we only have time to go over the cigars that are still making an impact on the industry two months later! Drew Estates released their long-awaited Liga Privada No. 9 T52 series that includes 3 sizes: Robusto, Toro, and “Flying Pig”. Rocky Patel, who has been releasing a new blend of cigars almost every 3 months it seems, released his Patel Brothers line and the Rocky Patel 1961 series. Because it has a long-standing following, the La Aroma De Cuba line is the talk of the cigar industry still. It was redone by Don Pepin Garcia (one of the most revered cigar blenders of this generation) and now features an even darker, more flavorful wrapper with a blend of tobacco that is affordable for the average Joe. Last, but not least, people are going out of their minds for the new CAO lines labeled the La Traviata and the CAO Gold Vintage. These cigars had a long wait for release and there was a ton of hype and marketing done by CAO.
Though the IPCPR Show is over, people are still burning to get their hands on the new cigars released. The manufacturers are enjoying the great comments about their new blends and the cigars seem to get better and better each year. If you’re looking to get the best deals on the new cheap and discount cigars we’d recommend that you search around on the internet. Even some of the cigars that aren’t supposed to be sold on the internet are and you can definitely save money by buying online!

My first cigar experience was not only memorable, but also enjoyable, because I had a veteran cigar smoker to guide me along. He patiently explained the different cigar brands, and gave a description of the flavors I could expect from each. After I had cut, lit and smoked my first cigar, I was hooked. You may or may not know a veteran cigar smoker to help guide you along, but if you follow theses tips I can guarantee the best experience possible.
When people try something new and have a bad experience they tend to write it off for good. That is why it’s imperative to not your cigars online until you know what you like. My first suggestion is to find a proper tobacco that only sells cigars, pipe tobacco and Briar and Meerschaum pipes. It also helps to have a couple friends to enjoy the experience with.
Cigars can be mild to full bodied. For your first cigar stick with a mild hand-rolled cigar. Romeo y Julieta, Royal Jamaica and Macanudo are brands that make wonderful mild cigars. A fair price for a good cigar is to dollars, which is right where you want to be.
Cigars are categorized by their size and thickness. Robusto is a short thick cigar. Corona is mid size (I suggest corona for a first cigar). Double corona is a few inches longer than corona. Quality hand-rolled cigars need to be cut. Purchase a guillotine cutter or have the attendant cut it for you. Never use your teeth to cut a cigar.
Now that your cigar is bought and cut I will discuss how to light it properly. You can use either a wood matchstick or a butane torch to light your stogie. Place the cigar in your mouth and graze the tip of the cigar to the flame. As you graze the cigar with the fire take slow and easy puffs while rotating the cigar. Flip the cigar around to see if the entire surface is glowing orange. If there are still dark spots then continue the process.
Find a comfortable chair and some good company. Treat the cigar in your hand like a fine glass of wine-sip, savor and enjoy its aroma. Take slow easy draws, at most, every 45 seconds, and let the smoke tantalize your mouth before you release it. Do not inhale
Give the cigar a 30 second rest between each puff. Puffing on a cigar as if you were in a competition will cause the smoke to heat up and possibly burn your mouth and fingers. Slowly smoking and savoring a cigar is a technique cigarette and former cigarette smokers have trouble with. This is because smoking cigarettes is a relatively fast process.
Unlike cigarette tobacco, cigar tobacco is moist and will stop burning after 3 to 5 minutes if left untouched. If your cigar does go out, relight it using the same technique you used to light it. If a cigar has been out for more than 30 minutes, throw it away. The tar that settles on the tip of the cigar will cause it to taste harsh and sour.
Ashing a cigar is very different than cigarette smokers ash cigarettes. Cigar smokers let the ash build up to half-an-inch before they gently tap it on the ashtray. If the ash does not fall off when you tap it, then it is not ready to be ashed.
By following this guide you are increasing the chance that your cigar will burn evenly and smoothly from start to finish. Purchase a few more cigars as you leave the . Try different sizes (Robusto, corona and double corona) and compare the differences in strength, draw and flavor. If you do not have a humidor to keep them moist, you can keep them in a zip-lock bag, but for no longer than a week. Happy cigar smoking!
