Richmond, VA (PRWEB) July 16, 2011

Wayne Newton will join representatives of the USO Las Vegas in accepting a $ 20,000 donation from General Cigar on behalf of the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association (IPCPR) on Monday, July 18 at 2:00 PM at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in the Venetian Hotel.

General Cigar and the IPCPR are making the donation to support the ?$ 1K a Day? campaign created to help fund the USO Las Vegas facility in McCarran Airport. Doug Bradford, center director of USO Las Vegas says it takes about $ 900 a day to operate the facility, which has been visited by more than 17,000 people with military ties since its opening last Veteran?s Day.

?The ?$ 1K a Day? campaign is the perfect way for businesses and individuals to show their support for our nation?s armed forces,? said Bradford. ?The importance of letting our men and women in the military know that we do not take for granted what they do for our country, every day, cannot be stressed enough.?

?Entertaining the men and women of our armed forces overseas has been one of the highlights of my life,? said entertainer and USO tour veteran Wayne Newton. ?I have been associated with the USO for decades and am honored to join the organization in accepting General Cigar and the IPCPR?s generous donation which will go a long way in helping fund the USO?s new Las Vegas center.?

General Cigar and the IPCPR will be in Las Vegas for the IPCPR?S 79th annual convention and international trade show which brings premium cigar manufacturers and retailers together to celebrate the industry and debut new products.

?We chose to represent the premium cigar category by contributing to the USO because we value the organization?s heritage and long-term commitment to supporting members of the U.S. Armed Forces bravely serving our country all over the world,? said Dan Carr president of General Cigar. ?We are honored to assist the USO in enhancing their presence in the city of Las Vegas which has graciously welcomed the IPCPR tradeshow for many years.?

The USO has more than 160 locations worldwide that serve as a home away from home for our military. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the organization and its mission to lift the spirits of America?s troops and their families. For more information about the USO Las Vegas “$ 1k a Day” campaign or to learn how to contribute, contact Doug Bradford, USO Las Vegas Center Director at 702-261-6590.

General Cigar?s commitment to supporting the USO stems from its comprehensive corporate citizenship program which is underwritten solely by the company. Since 1992, General Cigar has actively provided agricultural, environmental and educational support in the Dominican Republic and Honduras, where its premium cigars are handcrafted.

Most expensive Cigar

Most expensive Cigar

Gurkha His Majesty’s Reserve (HMR) holds the title of “world’s most expensive cigar ever made.” If you are looking for the absolute best, this is it.

For years, Gurkha has been known as the “Rolls Royce” of the cigar industry. Its reputation stems from unique blends of rare tobaccos hand crafted by the world’s foremost rollers. ’His Majesty’s Reserve’ is no exception, made from the most expensive cognac and premium tobacco. HMR starts with a rare aged Dominican wrapper that covers a secret blend of filler tobaccos from all over the world. Once the cigars are rolled, they then undergo a unique infusion process that involves an entire bottle of Louis XIII Cognac. This infusion process is very unique in that it does not take away from the tobacco flavor of the aged leaves, but rather complements them in grand fashion.

Fewer than 100 boxes of HMR are produced every year and the allocation of these rare gems is decided by Gurkha President Kaizad Hansotia. Cigar.com is proud to be one of the world’s only authorized dealers to sell this landmark cigar. There is no finer cigar, blend, packaging, or tobacco in the world. There are few blends, if any, that could lay claim to being finer. Read some reviews from very lucky people who have had the opportunity to try one:

Unquestionable the finest cigar I have ever had. It is like smoking a fine glass of cognac. The aroma and flavor were esquisite. How Gurkha produces this cigar is beyond me. – turd fergeson

excellent cigar but no cigar is worth that much – majesty

got this cigar as a present. I like premium cigars, and this one was quite good actually. Of course far away from a nice Cuban, but for blend of less famous tabaccos quite OK. My only complaint is the ridicolous label and the bad taste packaging. For this price you could expect more. anyway it was free for me, so I don’t bother. (P.S. though I would have appreciated to get the Cognac seperately) – partagashase

once had an opportunity to have a puff of this amazing Cigar. Its absolutely marvelous. Cigar lovers should have this tasted atleast once in thr entire life, even though its words most higly expensive cigar ever made…kudos to Gurkha…cheers – Vijay – India – vijayakumar Honnungar

The cigar was definitely a surprise. After lighting it, it had an absolutely wonderful taste. It was sweet, unlike any cigar I have ever tasted. The Gurkha HMR is one cigar that every cigar lover should try at least once in their life, sure glad I did. – 1luckyguy

 Cigars: Processing Tobacco
By John Payne and Patrice Hirschfeld

Why Process Tobacco?

After being harvested and cured, tobacco is not fully stabilized and can not be kept long. It must next be fermented. Fermentation is a complex process, but to make a long story short, one can say that it is a transformation of the chemical components by oxydation.

Fermentation and Aging

Fermentation is a natural transformation of the chemical components that stabilizes the raw material. The process is rather deep and quite fast. When well fermented, a tobacco can be stored for years without damage.

Aging is a slow natural evolution , during which time the tobacco is going to improve its characteristics and to lose its “green” taste. Once blended in a cigar, the tobacco deserves a new period of aging in order to reach a good balance between the blend components.

Why Ferment Tobacco?

Beyond stabilization and storage capability, fermentation makes the tobacco lose its raw and green taste that nobody would really like.

Who can ferment tobacco ?

It is easy to grow a few tobacco plants in your backyard if you like gardening. But if you want to process it for smoking, you’ll have to ferment it. If not, you’ll have some trouble with the taste. To ferment your tobacco properly, you need either large quantities (hundreds of pounds) to build a bulk volume for natural processing, or expensive equipment for artificial fermentation. Our recommandation is to grow petunias (decorative tobacco plants, with a lot of colorful blossoms) and to buy cigars to enjoy your smoke!

How to Ferment Tobacco?

To process a natural fermentation, tobacco is piled up. The weight and the natural moisture content allow the fermentation to start in the middle of the pile. The temperature goes up. When the targeted temperature is reached, the pile is broken and rebuilt, the outside tobacco going inside and vice versa. And that as many times as is necessary, until the whole pile is properly fermented. Some heavy tobaccos can need up to six turnings. It takes months to ferment them correctly.

Fermentation and Rotting

Don’t be afraid when reading that tobacco is fermented! Tobacco is not going to be rotten! Just stabilized and smokeable without giving you nausea. Fermentation considerably improves the original taste.

Fermentation and Quality

Each tobacco has its own fermentation procedure. The main factors that define the process are the texture of the material, and the utilization of the tobacco afterwards. Light wrappers and full bodied fillers are not fermented the same way.

Fermentation and Temperature

Humid tobacco leaves put in a pile are going to start fermenting, giving out heat. The control of the temperature inside the pile is a key factor of success. If the temperature goes too high, the tobacco will be cooked and deteriorate. Each type has its own optimal temperature. When it is reached, the pile has to be opened to stop the heating process and a new pile is built with cooled down tobacco. The outside tobaccos go inside and vice-versa. As an example, a dark air cured tobacco accepts a temperature up to about 130ºF. And disaster can start at 140ºF.

The CAO Black is the original CAO blend that put the brand on the map and led  to the overwhelming success of CAO cigars today.  Only available at Cigar.com and a small number of retailers worldwide, these cigars are often difficult to find.

When Cano Ozinger transitioned from pipe maker to cigar manufacturer, he had no idea how big his cigar business was about to become. In fact, today an overwhelming majority of their business is in cigars. They have developed some of the most unique cigar concepts and have utilized state of the art packaging and high-grade tobacco to put CAO on the map as one of the fastest growing manufacturers in the world with distribution inside and outside the US.

CAO Black is a rare find. The first regular blend ever made by CAO, it is only available at a handful of select retailers. It is the blend that made them famous and is still highly regarded today. In 2005 it received a perfect 10 out of 10 rating from Cigar Buyer Magazine. Each box of CAO Black is individually numbered making it a collector”s item in and of itself. The cigars are medium-bodied with a soft and dry finish and are only being made in limited supply. Don’t miss your chance to try a piece of cigar history.

Having smoked 4 so far at different points of aging (mind you, not that long), I can generalize the Bengal as this: The spice becomes much more noticed with age (not stronger, just more noticeable), and this observation is only after a few months in my humi. Earthy/ Root-y, yet not bitter nor stenchful, with a sweet honey-and-nuts undertone. Smooth draw, though others in the series are smoother. The potency and flavours are more “maduro- like” than “natural” to me, but then I prefer a double-maduro… – aphio-igor

Rated 88. Classic toro size. Excellent burn and construction, which was consistent with all other sizes – extremely well made. Medium flavor and body. – Cigar.com, November 2006 (TN)

Got 5 of these to try for free, which automatically makes them a great smoke!! Seriously though, I smoked one right away and found it to be really nice. Excellent draw with an even burn and good ash. Very smooth with a creaminess and a hint of nuts – but not bitter. I just ordered a box as a birthday gift to myself. – Lance – USMC (Ret)

Rated 91. Creamy brown, silky wrapper. Very attractive cigar. Pre-light flavors of cedar and light tobacco. Excellent construction with cedar, earthy aromas and some notes of honey. Salty on the palate but well balanced. Spice present through the nose and on the finish. Attractive cigar in a very classic size. Medium to full flavored and bodied with a delicious, long finish. – Cigar.com, November 2006 (TN)

An excellent medium bodied cigar, especially for the price. – boosdad1959

This cigar is by far the most pleasant I have had in a good long time. It is consistent in its delivery of spice and subtle sweetness. If you’re a chewer you’ll be in chomp heaven! – cynthia d. pape

Rated 90. Oily, light brown wrapper. Classic robusto size packed with flavor and well balanced. Great draw and flawless construction. Earth, cedar and salty notes on the palate. – Cigar.com, November 2006 (TN)

Nice even flavor, smoked well with even burn. Can see why this hit the market running. – Elaine

Balance Balance Balance. Earth and cedar perfectly balanced with vanilla. first few puffs are spicey then mellows and stays very consistant. i was hoping for a little more complexity but really no complaints. even burn and mega-long white ash. GET A BOX! – CodeMan

Selecting your first cigar might be as difficult as choosing a particular ice cream from the large number of varieties available in the shop. I did not face this problem, being accompanied by a cigar smoker who gave me proper guidance. He thoughtfully explained to me the qualities of various cigars and their main characteristics. Similarly, I would prefer to guide you correctly so that you could make the right choice and enjoy cigar smoking

It is advisable not to place order for cigar online until you gain full knowledge about it. You should actually select an exclusive shop that stocks only cigars, Briar and pipe tobacco. It would be nice to have a few friends who could join you in enjoying cigar smoking.

Cigars vary from being mild to strong. You should start smoking a cigar which is hand rolled and mild.

Royal Jamaica, Romeoy Julieta and Macanudo are the known cigars which are mild. Good quality cigars cost between and .

While selecting a cigar you should first look at their length and shapes. Caronas length is 5 and is mild. Double Carona is twice its length. Robusto is a cigar which is thick and short. These are the famous brands. Carona could be your first choice. You should get the cigar cut at the shop itself or procure a Guillotine cutter costing .

Unless you are familiar with the method of lighting a cigar, it could be complicated. Wooden match stick should be used for lighting of cigar. After putting the cigar in the mouth rotate it slowly in such a way that just the tip of cigar touches flame. After taking slow puff for a few seconds rotate the cigar and see that complete surface becomes radiant red. If some parts are not bright red, the process should be repeated.

Cigar should not be kept between the teeth. It should be kept between the lips. Sip gently as in the case of a glass of wine. Have long draws slowly and permit the smoke to stimulate the taste buds. You should not breathe in smoke. Smoking is not done in a hurry. Gap of 45 seconds is given between puffs to make it enjoyable. This makes the smoke in the mouth smooth and cool. Cigar should be allowed to settle for a few minutes, if it gets heated up close to fingers.

Cigars last for three to five minutes. It should not be lit after a gap of 25 to 45 seconds. It is likely to cause bitter taste. Cigar ash should not tapped on the ashtray till it builds to .5. When tapping your cigar, you should only tap ever so slightly so as not to disrupt the taste.

If you follow the given instructions you would certainly relish the delicate fragrance of cigar. You should taste various types of cigar and try and compare them to understand their worth. Just make sure that you always preserve your cigars with appropriate preservation techniques such as a quality humidor or at the very least with some form of cedar trays.

I have been involved in the cigar industry for over 20 years and I have written extensive guides on such products as the Travel Humidor, and the Palio Cutter. Also, see some of my latest guides on one of the best cigar accessories, the Cigar Caddy

Well, it’s turkey time again. And what better occasion to light one up than a day devoted to watching football, eating too much, and sharing a couple cold ones with friends and family? I’ve consulted my local brick and mortar, Emerson’s Cigarsin Hampton Roads, VA about what’s trending hot this Fall season. The consensus seems to be that some of the newest editions this year are making big impressions on the regulars. I’ve been lucky enough to sample most of the highlights from this year’s IPCPR as well as late season additions and I’ve narrowed my findings to a few gems that any cigar connoisseur should be pleased with. So grab a nice, frosty glass of pumpkin beer and enjoy my picks for Thanksgiving 2010!1. Mac Cru Royale aka The perfect “watchin-fuzeball-waitin-for-dinner cigar.2010 has been the year to push the envelope and look who decided to show up for the party! Macanudo gets a little out of their comfort zone to bring you an incredibly intricate and satisfying medium bodied smoke. Stepping up their game with an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper never before seen in their line, the Mac Cru Royale makes a statement right from the presentation with a beautiful blue and silver band: very regal. The exotic flavor combination you get from the Brazilian, Dominican, and Nicaraguan fillers when paired with a smartly chosen Dominican binder blew us away.Wrapper: Ecuadorian HabanoBinder: DominicanFiller: Brazilian, Dominican, and NicaraguanStrength: Medium Bodied2. El Primer Mundo: Liga Miami aka The perfect “I-ate-too-much-but-I-am-still-gonna-eat-pie-later cigar.Different can be good. In fact, sometimes different is AMAZING. And in this case, Liga Miami might not look like the other cigars from El Primer Mundo but it stands out for all the right reasons. Immediately you might notice that it’s not box pressed. This is because Liga Miami pays homage to the old world Cuban tradition of cigar rolling. It’s easy to appreciate the beautiful cabinet boxes and the gorgeous silver band. There is a nice feeling of simplicity. However, what’s inside is NOT so simple.Liga Miami uses an entubado method of compiling the filler tobacco. Basically, this means that every filler leaf is slowly are carefully rolled into individual tubes. You can image how time consuming this is but the result is a near perfect draw. Two binder leaves are used to hold this special filler in place. Liga Miami is finished with an enticing Ecuadorian Sungrown wrapper. The result of this innovation speaks for itself. This cigar lover’s dream features toasted nuttiness with cedar accents and creaminess throughout.Wrapper: Ecuadorian SungrownBinder: NicaraguanFiller: Dominican and NicaraguanStrength: Full Bodied3. PDR 1878 aka The perfect “maybe-I’ll-have-a-turkey-sandwich-but-for-now-pass-me-another-beer cigarThis fantastic Maduro features a chocolaty, Brazilian wrapper that adds that incredible sweetness to a surprisingly complex cigar. The Dominican Criollo ’98 binder when combined with the Nicaraguan and Dominican fillers give the PDR 1878it’s burst of spice in the beginning that lingers elegantly in the background throughout. This cigar packs evokes lots of beautiful, aromatic smoke and is sure to be a new favorite.Wrapper: BrazilianBinder: Dominican Criollo ’98Filler: Dominican and NicaraguanStrength: Medium BodiedAll of these amazing smokes and more can be found daily at Emerson’s Cigars in Hampton Roads, VA.
